The beauty of the intimate landscape

The region of the Verzasca is one of the best-kept natural secrets of Switzerland. A paradise of water and rock, where the erosion of the river Verzasca has produced true works of art in the mineral landscape. The gneiss of this region, which shows incredible colors and textures, is juxtaposed with the clear waters coming down the valley, producing endless photographic possibilities of intimate scenes and details.

In the valley of Ticino, the villages, built of stone, also offer a timeless rural setting for the realization of landscape photos of a higher scale.

The variety of subjects in the region will give us a wide range of photographic options: pictures of the great landscape with villages and the river, details of rocks and water, use of wide angle and telephoto, abstract scenes full of shapes, textures, and color...

To be within reach of the most photogenic places at the best possible light, we are staying in a hotel at the entry of the valley, where we will not only sleep and eat the typical food of Ticino, but also celebrate our sessions on post-processing and critique of some of the photos taken during the workshop.

This area is a real jewel for those wanting to focus on the photography of the intimate landscape, where we can fine-tune our photographic eye!

The Verzasca valley displays some of the most beautiful rocks in Europe, eroded by the raging waters coming down from the Alps

Incredible textures, colors, patterns, and shapes mix with the moving water and offer the photographer a wonderful playground to hone vision and composition

We will not only photograph rocks and water, but also intimate scenes of the landscape: textures in the traditional villages, medieval arch bridges spanning the gorge, forests, waterfalls, and beautiful constructions

Rafael Rojas (Master Hasselblad 2014, MA Photography, ARPS) is a Swiss-Spanish fine art photographer, author, and lecturer whose work frequently focuses on concepts like time, decay and renewal, the raw, latent energy found in the landscape, and the ephemeral qualities of existence. He strives to encapsulate concept, emotion, and spirituality in his work.

Rafael has been involved in teaching since he was in his teens, well before he picked up a camera for the first time, first helping out young students, then teaching undergrads, and later as a university lecturer. Nowadays, as a full-time artist, photographer, lecturer, author, and creativity mentor, he deeply enjoys helping other photographers grow as artists, encouraging them to slow down and look at the world with different eyes.

He is the founder of the online Master COURSE "Photography with Intent," a unique, comprehensive, and structured one-year course devoted to the entire photographic process from message to print.

Rafael is also co-owner and co-director of “Platinum Press Editions,” an independent finer art photography publishing company devoted to the creation of photography books of the highest quality.

Rafael speaks English, French, Spanish, Romanian, and Italian.

Anca Minican, the partner of Rafael Rojas, provides a very special touch to all our photographic workshops and trips.  Trained as an architect, she is a true lover of nature and the wilderness and always accompanies Rafael on his photographic expeditions all over the planet.

Her broad experience in the corporate world, her professionalism, and her methodical and serious approach make her a valuable asset to the organization, specializing in on-site logistics and providing support to customers during our workshops and photographic trips. She also plays a key role in team building and knows how to create an amicable environment with a personal touch, as all our clients can testify!

Anca is co-owner and co-founder of “Platinum Press Editions,” an exclusive editorial house specializing in the creation of unique fine art photography books of the highest quality. She is also part of the management staff of the Master COURSE "Photography with Intent."

She speaks English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Romanian.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
