Who has never dreamt of photographing the gigantic icebergs of the Arctic?

We are taking you to Ilulissat, which is the inuit word for “iceberg”, a place nestled just by the most productive glacier of the whole Northern Hemisphere: the Sermeq Kujalleq. Every year, this glacier pushes 35 cubic kilometers of ice into the fjord, producing gigantic icebergs of more than 100 meters high above the sea level. It is not a surprise that this fjord has been listed as a Unesco natural heritage of mankind.

This trip has been particularly scheduled to coincide with the autumn colours and the beginning of the northern light activity. We will take advantage of the beautiful light of sunrise and sunset, as the icebergs turn pink, red and orange.

Therefore, we have made it coincide with the full Moon, that will hover very close to the horizon against a purple and deep blue sky, providing fantastic photographic opportunities.

This is a very exclusive photo-trip, for which we have chartered a boat just for our group, that we will take every day to photograph the giants of ice from the ocean. We will also have our own cozy penthouse where to have great meals and discuss about our photographs. This will be truly an unforgettable experience not to be missed.

There are few things as surreal and magical as standing surrounded by gigantic icebergs under the eerie light of the Arctic. Impossible to describe!

The highest and densest amount of icebergs in the whole world awaits you in one of the most spectacular places in the planet.

Discover the magic of a never-ending twilight. Pinks, oranges, reds and yellows paint the massive icebergs. And on top, a dark purple sky where the moon hovers above it all.

Wide landscapes, intimate details, wildlife, sunrises, sunsets, dawn, dusk, night photography, panoramic views...

Rafael Rojas (Master Hasselblad 2014, MA Photography, ARPS) is a Swiss-Spanish fine art photographer, author and lecturer whose work frequently focuses on concepts like time, decay and renewal, the raw latent energy found in the landscape and the ephemeral qualities of existence. He strives to encapsulate concept, emotion and spirituality in his work.

Rafael has been involved in teaching since he was in his teens, and well before he took a camera for the first time. First helping out young students, then teaching undergrads and later on as a University lecturer. Nowadays, as a full time professional photographer, lecturer, author and creativity mentor, he deeply enjoys helping other photographers grow as artists, slow down and look at the world with different eyes.

He is the founder of the online MasterCOURSE "Photography with Intent", a unique, comprehensive and structured one year course devoted to the whole photographic process from message to print.

Rafael is also co-owner and co-director of “Platinum Press Editions”, an independent finer art photography publishing company devoted to the creation of photography books of the highest quality.

Rafael speaks English, French, Spanish, Romanian and Italian.

Anca Minican, the partner of Rafael Rojas, provides a very special touch to all our photographic workshops and trips.  Trained as an architect, she is a true lover of nature and the wilderness and always accompanies Rafael on his photographic expeditions all over the planet.

Her broad experience in the corporate world, her professionalism and her methodical and serious approach make her a valuable asset for the organization, on-site logistics and the support to customers during our workshops and photographic trips. She also plays a key role in the team building and knows how to create an amicable environment with a personal touch as all our clients can testify!

Exclusive, independent, flexible and intimate

Our own boat for the whole week

We have chartered our own boat for the whole week. We will have complete flexibility to time our photo-excursions, in order to take advantage of the light and weather conditions. We will spend quite a lot of time photographing from the sea, but we will also photograph from the shore.

Our own loft - studio for complete independence

We will gather in a beautiful penthouse overlooking the bay where we will have our breakfasts, lunches and dinners. This will allow us total flexibility to arrange our schedule around the photographic activities, and also provide you with wonderful food.k

Critique sessions and review of images

In our cozy space, we will spend time every day reviewing the images made by the participants and teaching you how to squeeze all the expressive potential of them by post-processing. We will photograph quite a lot of different subjects, and not only icebergs. Maybe also northern lights?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
